Low Noise Block downconverter (atau LNB) adalah perangkat penerima yang dipasang  dan mengumpulkan gelombang radio pada piring parabola dan digunakan untuk penerimaan TV satelit,
LNB adalah kombinasi dari low-noise amplifier, mixer frekuensi, osilator lokal dan IF amplifier. Ini menerima sinyal gelombang mikro dari satelit yang dikumpulkan oleh piring parabola, menguatkan, dan downconverts blok frekuensi ke blok yang lebih rendah dari frekuensi menengah (IF). Downconversion ini memungkinkan sinyal yang akan dibawa ke penerima TV satelit menggunakan kabel koaksial relatif murah; jika sinyal tetap pada frekuensi gelombang mikro aslinya itu akan membutuhkan Waveguide mahal dan tidak praktis.
LNB biasanya berupa sebuah kotak kecil dihubungkan pada satu atau lebih tabung pendek, atau lengan, diletakkan didepan reflektor piring parabola, di fokusnya (meskipun beberapa desain memiliki LNB pada atau di belakang reflektor). Sinyal microwave dari piring diterima oleh feedhorn pada LNB dan diumpankan ke bagian Waveguide. Satu atau lebih pin logam, atau probe, menonjol ke dalam waveguide pada sudut kanan terhadap sumbu dan bertindak sebagai antena, meneruskan sinyal ke sebuah PCB dalam kotak terlindung LNB untuk diproses. Frekuensi rendah sinyal output dikeluarkan dari konektor pada kotak mana dihubungkan dengan kabel koaksial ke receiver penerima.

Menurut studi terbaru yang dilakukan oleh lembaga riset NPD, perangkat yang akan segera tersingkir dari persaingan adalah kamera point-and-shoot murah serta camcorder low end. Tren tersebut terlihat dari kecenderungan yang terjadi di industri.

Sebagai gambaran, menurut data NPD, persentase foto yang diambil menggunakan smartphone naik menjadi 27 persen pada tahun 2011 ini. Angkanya naik dari 17 persen di kurun waktu yang sama, tahun lalu.

Dikutip dari PC Magazine, 24 Desember 2011, foto yang diambil menggunakan kamera point-and-shoot turun dari 55 persen menjadi 44 persen. Penjualan kamera itu turun sebesar 17 persen di tahun 2011. Adapun penurunan penjualan camcorder sendiri mencapai 13 persen.

Meski smartphone pada umumnya belum bisa mendekati kamera point-and-shoot paling murah sekalipun dari sisi kualitas gambar, namun smartphone lebih praktis.

Smartphone juga biasanya tidak dilengkapi komponen optik untuk fotografi serius sehingga tidak bisa menyediakan wide shot ataupun zoom yang baik. Bahkan jarang yang punya flash yang bagus. Meski begitu, banyak konsumen yang merasa kamera ponsel sudah cukup memenuhi kebutuhan. (adi)
